Day 2

I was rewarded for my early start. I headed into the bighorns, and before seven I'd seen mule dear along the road and a herd of elk down the valley. It appears that the highest peaks I can see are about 12,000 feet.

I've stopped it Powder River Pass. Apparently it's going to be cold tonight!

My campsite at sitting bull campground is beautiful. It overlooks a huge meadow with mountains in the background.

Now that I have time to do some legitimate hiking alone, I'm getting a whole new appreciation for being in the moment, and being present. As I hike I need to be aware of every detail and turn, where the sun is, what direction the water is flowing, and whether I'm up or downwind from and up approaching bear. I wonder how much I miss when I don't need to be "in the moment."

On my very first hike out of camp I came upon a young moose eating by a stream.

The bighorns were awesome! On to Yellowstone!
